Chennai: The police are on the look-out for a middle-aged man who robbed a 66-year-old woman of her seven-sovereign gold chain at knife-point at her residence in Mogappair on Monday. The man, smartly dressed, according to the victim, Ranjitham, gained entry into the house at 3rd Block in Mogappair (West ) on the pretext of seeking directions around 7 pm on Monday.
The woman, who was alone watching television, came out after she noticed the man standing outside the gate. As she came near him, the man took out a knife and threatened her to part away with her gold chain and then fled.
By the time the neighbours reached the place hearing her cry for help, the man escaped on the bike he had parked a few metres away, the police said. The J.J. Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
“The suspect seems to be in his early 40s, based on the inputs provided by the victim. We are also verifying CCTV cameras in the neighborhood to see If any of them has picked up his image,” a police officer said.
