Thunderstorm hits Bengaluru: 120 minutes, 30 trees, city on its knees
Bengaluru: Over 30 trees and branches crashed across the city as another thunderstorm hit the city on Tuesday evening. As the downpour occurred during the evening peak hours, office-goers were stranded for several hours.
Traffic jams were reported from different parts of the city. MG Road and Brigade Road and other surrounding areas in the Central Business District were severely affected with waterlogged streets and slow moving traffic. Traffic jams were also reported in Corporation Circle, Majestic, Shivajinagar Yelahanka, Mekhri Circle and Hebbal.
The BBMP control room said that over 30 trees and branches had crashed, and the incidents were reported from Yelahanka, Shivajinagar, Banasavadi, Peenya and other areas. Meteorological Department officials said that the rain started around 5 pm and continued till 7.45 pm.
They predicted more thundershowers on Wednesday and Thursday. Power supply was cut in Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, Modi Road and surrounding areas after the heavy downpour. Several trains were delayed as a tree fell on the track between Malleswaram and Yeshwanthapur railway stations around 10.30 pm Tuesday.
