Mangaluru family in dire straits rescued just in time
Mangaluru: A family which was hit by health problems and starvation was rescued by the Child Helpline and Women and Child Welfare officials on Tuesday. The poverty ridden family includes a four year old and five year old.
Shrinivas (38) wife Mallika (32) along with their two sons are residents of Kalpane-Kakkebettu of Shakthinagar in Mangaluru City. Shrinivas suffers from paralysis and is undergoing treatment. His wife too has health problems and is under medication.
In the past few days her health had deteriorated which made the family contact relatives for help. Officials said none of the relatives turned up and the two kids themselves did their best to treat and provide food to their sick parents.
They did not have proper food for about three days and were consuming powder food provided at the Anganwadi which they visit. Officials of Mangaluru Childline and Women and Child Welfare Department who received information about the family rushed to the spot with other officials and found that the family was in dire straits with no one to help them.
With nothing else available, the two kids had plucked tender coconuts from the tree near their house and were trying to make their mother drink it. Shrinivas had fallen from the bed and was on the ground with his face pointing to the earth. His mother too was in the house but was in tears and could only watch helplessly.
Officials who visited the family took Shrinivas and Mallika to Wenlock Hospital. The kids were rehabilitated by the officials.
