Karnataka government to close down schools with zero pass percentage
Belagavi: Though the state achieved a good SSLC result this time with more than 81 per cent of students passing, the government has decided to act strictly against schools which failed to register a good performance.
In Vijaypura district where schools have shown 3 per cent less pass percentage than last year in the SSLC examinations, the government decided to close down schools which registered zero pass percentage.
According to sources, Vijaypura which always performed well in the SSLC examinations in the past, has been performing badly for the past few years achieving 32nd place last year and 31st this year. In terms of pass percentage, the district registered 78.70 per cent last year compared to 75.70 this year.
On holding a meeting to review the reasons that led to the fall in students’ performance, the Education Department found that three schools had registered zero per centage results this year and two last year.
It was decided by officials to close down Manasgangotri Kannada School of Didagundi, Ambabhavani High School of Anjutagi and Shivakumar high School of Bidarkundi which showed nil performance in the SSLC examinations this year.
During the review meeting, the officials decided to issue notices to 42 other schools in Vijaypura district including eight government schools which had achieved less than 40 per cent performance in the SSLC exam.
