Karimnagar Municipal Corporation to impose plastic ban

KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar Municipal Corporation will soon impose ban on usage of plastic carry bags weighing less than 40 microns as per Solid Waste Management Act, 2015. Authorities said that stringent action would be taken against retailers of plastic and eateries who rely on lighter weight polythene bags.
In an attempt to reduce consumption of polythene, the KMC has decided to ban polythene carry bags from July 1, according to the revised rules of Solid Waste Management Act. The authorities were directed to implement the Act effectively in a meeting held in Hyderabad.
KMC commissioner K. V. Ramana Chary said that initially a month-long awareness programmes would be conducted to educate different stakeholder over implications polythene usage from June 1. “Meetings would be conducted with retailers of plastic, owners of hotels, public and other stake holders in order to create awareness. Then, enforcement of the Act will be begun from July 1,” he stated.
