DGP GV Ramudu: Police wing needs Rs 7,000 crore in new capital
J.V. Ramudu said that they are installing CC Cameras for surveillance in Nellore
Nellore: The Andhra Pradesh Police Department requires nearly Rs 7,000 crore funds besides 3,800 acres of land to build necessary infrastructure to shift the headquarters from Hyderabad to newly created capital region near Vijayawada. AP director general of police J.V. Ramudu has disclosed this while speaking to media persons here on Tuesday. He said that they are depending on the Centre for funds for the infrastructure while pointing to AP Reorganization Act.
As per the Act the Centre should provide necessary support for improving infrastructure in the new capital zone, the DGP said adding that they have already identified the land. He also pointed to shortage of staff in the department in the new state while referring to a proposal sent to the government for addressing the issue. The DGP, who inaugurated two I-Click kiosks in Nellore earlier, said that the response to such centres established on pilot basis in Visakhapatnam led them to extend the facility to other districts.
He invited corporate and commercial organisations to sponsor I-Click centres under Corporate Social Responsibility activity. He dwelt at length on the measures being taken to make use of IT technology to improve policing for the benefit of people to lodge their grievances without going to police stations personally. He said that they are installing CC Cameras for surveillance in Nellore with the help of Rs 50 lakh provided by Nellore Municipal Corporation.
Reacting to a question, Mr Ramudu said they had directed all district SPs to collect data of pendency of cases regarding rehabilitation for surrendered Maoists while expressing concern over delay in the process. Stressing that they will not spare anyone involved in red sander smuggling, he said that his department is ready to book cases against politicians if there is evidence for their role.
Responding to a question on language barrier to interrogate the Chinese national Yang Ping arrested by Chittoor police in red sanders smuggling case, he said there was no such difficulty. Guntur range IG N. Sanjay, Nellore SP Dr Gajarao Bhupal, additional SP R. Gangadhara Rao and other police officials were present. The DGP also inaugurated quarters for inspectors during his visit.
