Bengaluru: Cops trying to protect tainted colleagues?
BENGALURU: A 38-year-old salon owner has accused Mico Layout police of allegedly harassing him and refusing to register a theft case against three of their colleagues, who were recently trapped by Lokayukta while taking bribe.
Anand Kumar, a resident of Austin Town, who runs a salon in Koramangala and Vijaya Bank Layout, has accused police inspector Manjunath, attached with Mico layout police station, and two other policemen Shivamada and Shivakumar of stealing his video digital recorder (VDR) and other materials from his Vijaya Bank Layout outlet during a raid.
They were reportedly demanding bribe to return his belongings. Anand then filed a case with Lokayukta and the three cops were trapped while accepting bribe on April 28. Recounting the incidents Anand told Deccan Chronicle, Kumar said, “In January, the Mico Layout police inspector Manjunath, along with two other policemen carried out a raid on my beauty salon ‘Fashion Express’ at Sundaram Shetty Nagar in Vijaya Bank Layout. They stole the VDR to cover their tracks for conducting an illegal raid.”
Anand further alleged that, “Manjunath had demanded bribe from me to give back my VDR, agreement papers and other materials. I paid some money and got the papers back. “However, the inspector didn’t return my VDR among other things and demanded more bribe to get it released. I informed Lokayukta officials and they caught them red-handed while accepting bribe on April 28. However, the policemen did not return my office material lying with them. During a recorded conversation with the three policemen they had accepted that they have my valuables lying with them, which I had informed the officials of Lokayukta.
“They directed me to file a theft case against the three accused policemen. However, despite several visits to the police station, the Mico Layout police are refusing to register complaint.” When Deccan Chronicle contacted Deputy Commissioner of Police South-East Rohini Katoch Sepat, she said, “As the case is pending with the Lokayukta, we are waiting for their report.”
