KOZHIKODE: With a record result in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination and more students scoring A+ grade this year, the management quota seats in aided and private schools are in high demand.
Even students with A plus scores are now forced to apply for management quota seats, paying huge “donation” demanded by many leading private and aided institutions here.
Of the 4,68,273 students appeared for the exam this year, nearly 13,000 students scored A+ grade in all the subjects and a majority of them scored more than 80 percent marks.
“Unlike previous years, we had a record applicants this year for Plus Two in the management quota for all streams,” St Michael’s Girls Higher Secondary School principal Sr Sujaya said.
“Even for humanities, the less opted stream, we received more than 60 applications for less than 10 seats in management quota”.
Her school is also following the state government’s Grading Point Average (GPA), which can leave students with less marks waiting for the management quota.
Seats are available in 1,812 higher-secondary schools spread the state.
The total intake in government (769 schools) and aided (672) schools is around 3.07 lakh, in which Malappuram tops with 51,320 seats while Wayanad has the least number of seats (8,280).
“My daughter has scored eight A plus grades and two A in SSLC exam but I have no hope that she will get admission to the science stream in the school of our preference. Most of the students scored maximum marks,” said Satheeshan Menon, a parent.“Hence with no other option left I have approached management and I’m ready to pay the fees they demand”.
