May 28: Mysuru’s date with a coronation

The preparations for the coronation ceremony will begin on May 21

Mysuru: Mr Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar is likely to ascend the throne as 27th Maharaja of the 600 year old Wadiyar dynasty on May 28. The coronation ceremony is likely to be held on May 27 and 28.

The official announcement on the coronation will be made soon after the 13th Day Ceremony of Maharajakumari Meenakshi Devi Avaru on May 20. The preparations for the coronation ceremony will begin on May 21, Royal family sources told Deccan Chronicle.

The 13th day ceremony of the second daughter of late Maharaja of Mysuru, Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, who passed away on May 7 will be held at Lakshmipuram on Wednesday. After the demise of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar on December 10, 2012, Mr Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs, grandson of Mr Wadiyar’s eldest sister Maharajakumari Gayathri Devi Avaru and son of Tripurasundara Devi and Mr Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs was adopted by Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar at a ceremony held on February 23. Consequent to the adoption, he was renamed Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

Mr Yaduveer hails from the same Bettada Kote family, as Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. The association between the Wadiyars of Mysuru and the Bettada Kote family goes back to more than 200 years. Maharani Lakshammanni Avaru, whose relentless battle resulted in restoration of the kingdom to Sri Mummudi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, hails from the same family. Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar X, adopted by Sri Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar also comes from Bettada Kote family.

Mr Yaduveer who studied in Vidya Niketan School Bengaluru upto class 10, passed out of Canadian International School, Bengaluru completing 12th grade. He graduated from University of Massachusetts, Amherst in US on May 8 and arrived at Mysuru Palace from the US on May 15.
