AK Antony denies move on change in leadership
The party high command is not in the business of changing leaders in the state
ALAPPUZHA: Senior Congress leader A.K. Antony has denied any move for a leadership change in the state ministry and said his remarks against corruption the other day were general and not intended against any particular person.
He told reporters here that his speech at the meeting of the Kerala Secretariat Association in Thiruvananthapuram last week was misinterpreted by the media triggering a heated debate in political circles.
“I have never targeted anyone with any hidden agenda and it is not in my character. The media took my remarks out of context and none should try to make capital out of the confusion,” he said.
Mr Antony asserted that Mr Oommen Chandy, Mr Ramesh Chennithala and Mr V.M. Sudheeran were capable of leading the government and the party.
Saying that certain differences in the Congress and the UDF had been pending for a while, he advised the leaders to avoid raising them in public.
“The party high command is not in the business of changing leaders in the state. The Congress will retain power if the faction feuds are avoided and all stand united,” he said. Mr Antony refused to comment on the bar bribery issue saying an inquiry was already on.
