Chennai: A woman and her daughter were robbed of eight sovereign of gold jewels at knifepoint by two unidentified men who gained entry into the house after breaking open the back door at Puduvoyal village near Gummidi poondi in Thiruvallur district on Saturday night. Other inmates were sleeping in another room when the incident happened.
According to the police, Arun, software company staff and his wife Lavanya, were sleeping in the bedroom while his sister Suganya and mother Sulochana were sleeping in the hall. The robbers, after sneaking in, were searching for the bureau when Sulochana noticed them and tried to raise an alarm, police said.
The victims said the two men then threatened them with knives before taking away eight sovereigns of gold from them. Sulochana later told her son about the incident and a complaint was lodged with Kavarapettai police. The victims said that the burglars were speaking in Tamil and had applied oil on their bodies.
