Sub inspector was fatally knocked down by a lorry when he was going home

Chennai: A 53-year-old sub inspector of police attached to the Elephant Gate police station in the city was fatally knocked down by a lorry at Vyasarpadi on Saturday night when he was going home at around 10 pm on his two-wheeler from the police station after his duty got over.

SI Ravi Kumar was knocked off his bike at MKB Nagar — Udayasuriyan Nagar junction and died on the spot, the police said. The driver of the empty lorry involved in the mishap escaped from the scene leaving behind his vehicle. The victim was not wearing a helmet, the police added.

Ravi Kumar, a resident of MB Nagar, is survived by his wife and two daughters. Immediately after the incident, his colleagues from the traffic wing shifted the body to Stanley medical college for post mortem. Ravi Kumar hails from a family of policemen. His father had retired as a head constable and his three brothers are also working as policemen in various capacities.
