Telangana told to clarify nativity clause for seats in NIT
Hyderabad: There is a new twist in the National Institute of Technology Warangal home quota tale as the Union HRD ministry on Saturday wrote to the Telangana government asking if Article 371D would be applicable for admissions to the premier institution.
The HRD ministry asked the state government if the domicile status for admissions is notified as per Article 371D of the Constitution. The question is surprising considering the fact that Article 371D is only limited to state government institutions, while those like the IIT and NIT are Central government controlled. The TS government is yet to reply to the letter from HRD ministry.
The tussle for seats under the 50 per cent home quota between TS and AP governments has been going on for some time. The latter is seeking a quota for AP students in the NIT Warangal home quota on the premise that NIT Warangal has about 800 seats while NIT Andhra Pradesh is likely to have less than 100 seats.
