Partha’s Ananda Vimana ready
Chennai: Even as the renovation work at Sri Parthasarathy Swami temple at Triplicane here is nearing completion, restoration of the Anandha Vimana (gopuram above the sanctum sanctorum) of the main deity is now ready. The famous Vaishnavite shrine, built by the Pallavas in the 8th century, is among the 108 Divya Desams.
Renovation of the temple was last done 12 years ago. Preparations are underway to hold the temple consecration of the temple soon.Two weeks back, a team comprising Hindu religious and charitable endowments minister R. Kamaraj and HR & CE commissioner M. Veera Shanmugha Moni inspected the renovation activities being undertaken at the cost of about Rs 6 crore. Orders were also issued to speed up the process, including one that provides central air-conditioning facility for devotees.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Saturday, deputy commissioner P. Kothandaraman said the various improvements done in the Anandha Vimana, costing over '2 lakh, is complete now. Work on “41 dolls, depicting kalasams (consecrated pots), Munivargal and Ashta Thikku Balagas, made with 250 grams of gold areas is almost finished. Only a few works remain to be done,” he said.
