Vijayawada: BJP senior leader and Seemandhra party Udyama committee chairman Y Ragunatha Babu said the NDA government needs some more time to accord special status to Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Mr Raghunatha Babu remin-ded that special status was accorded to Uttaran-chal after two years of its formation. To give special status to AP, some norms should be changed, he said, adding that it was the reason for the delay. Though the status has not been accorded, the BJP government is providing several benefits to AP, he said. “The Congress leaders are still misleading people by campaigning against the BJP, he added.
Fuming at the Congress, the BJP leader said the Congress had cheated the people without following a proper procedure while dividing the state. “Special status alone is not the antidote to all the problems in the state,” he added. The BJP is still committed to according special status to AP, Mr Babu said and added that a few leaders were misguiding people for vested interests. BJP leader and former MLA D. Sambaiah was also present.
AP SC, ST Association JAC leaders staged a protest at the BJP office and raised slogans demanding that the leaders consider special status to the state an important issue.
