6 tonnes of red sanders worth Rs 20 crore in the market recovered in Haryana
Anantapur: In a major breakthrough, Kadapa police nabbed red sanders International smuggler Mukesh Adani and also unearthed a huge dump of Red Sanders logs worth Rs 20 crore at Magali area in Hissar district in Haryana state on Saturday. The 37-year-old Mukesh Adani from Haryana state is accused in two cases in connection with red sanders smuggling in Kadapa district.
Two special police teams kept watch on the movements of the smuggler for the past few days and raided his den and nabbed him. Kadapa SP Naveen Gulati said that police have upped ante against smugglers invol-ved in red sanders smuggling. He added that the special teams got clue about Mukhesh Adani’s involvement, who was purchasing red sanders logs from Seshachalam forest in Rayalaseema region and dumping at his godown in Mangali area in Haryana state; and from there selling those in the international market to countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and other countries.
Special cell DSP B. Sreenivasulu and SB DSP M. Rajagopala Reddy are cracking down on smuggling activities through combing operations in Kadapa district. Recently police arrested another Kadapa-based international smuggler B. Venkataramana of Chingara-jupalli, along with others, and seized Rs 9 crore worth of sanders. During grilling, the smugglers revealed role of Badani. “Our teams raided in Magali area and caught the international smuggler along with 6 tonnes of red sanders worth Rs 20 crore in the market,” SP Naveen Gulati said.
