Potassium-rich food can curb high blood pressure

WHO recommends the daily salt intake ceiling at just 5 gm

Hyderabad: Consumption of foods rich in potassium can help control hypertension, said the World Health Organisation, adding that sodium intake can aggravate the condition.

Doctors say hypertension is one of the biggest contributors of the disease around the world. Despite this, it is still not clearly known what exactly causes hypertension. The WHO has said that dietary salt intake is one of the important factors that contribute to hypertension.

Researchers have also pointed out that hypertension among children could be due to genetic factors, but that still remains a risk factor. Intake of salt in India is on the higher side. WHO recommends the daily salt intake ceiling at just 5 gm. But it is not just direct salt intake, but also sodium intake through various foods that needs to be limited.
