Karnataka: Crucial meet gives push to commuter rail

The officials decided to hold separate meetings and finalise a proposal

BENGALURU: A meeting was held on Friday between the officials from the state Urban Development Department (UDD) and South Western Railways to discuss the proposed commuter rail network for the city. They decided to hold separate meetings and finalise a proposal. Then they would approach the Central Government for clearances and funds.

An officer told this newspaper, "This meeting is significant as it will be the first step towards implementation of the project." The growing demand for the commuter train project has forced all the stake holders to move files speedily, he added. It has been a long pending demand among traffic experts and city residents to have a suburban rail system to ease the traffic congestion on the city's roads.
