CM Chandrababu Naidu eyes students to tap water resources
Asks engineers to hone their skills and help government
Rajahmundry: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu intends to rope in the engineering students pursuing civil engineering from next academic year to carry out extensive stu-dy and research on how to tap the water and optimise its usage in the state. Addressing the engineers from all the 13 districts in the state from newly christened water resources department to mark the 212th birth anniversary of Sir Arthur Cotton at Dowleswaram on Friday, the CM stated that one of the natural resources like water plays crucial role in development of civilisation and also helps solve many problems including drought.
He said that he want to set up a water resources university in the state. He called upon the engineers to vet their skills and help the government to formulate new policies on tapping and usage of water. Naidu said, “You have the expertise and engineering skills. You have to adopt an integrated approach to solve the issues. We need to link all the rivers in the state similar to the Centre's move linking Ganga to Cauvery. This helps im-prove ground water tables. Otherwise, ground water tables will be depleted and if one draws water below eight met-ers depth, those who co-nsume such water will get health problems like fluoride. You come up with innovative ideas in our mission to make the state drought-free and leave about the funds to us.”
“When China is using pre-fabricated str-uctures for interlinking of its rivers from north to south and allowing high speed trains to run, why not India and especially our state adopt the same technology. We have to set standards for ourselves,” he said. The CM appreciated the great engineers like Sir Arthur Cotton, Mokshagumdam Visweswaraiah, K. L. Rao and K. Sriramakrishnaiah for showing exemplary skills and vision for develop of the country at a time when they were not having access to technology, satellite imageries, Google Maps, vehicles and high-end equipment.
