Chennai: A 16-year-old girl, staying with her father who is a construction worker at a building site in Nandambakkam, jumped to death on Friday after her father asked her to cook for him and his friends.
The police said Raji, daughter of Passil Kotlu, a native of Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, had come to the city recently with her father.
She had completed her class 10 and was asked by her father to stay with him till school reopens. She agreed, came with him to Chennai and was staying with him at the construction site.
“After reaching here, he asked her to cook for him and his co-workers, which infuriated her. On Friday morning, the issue again cropped up. She went to the fourth floor and told her father that she was going to commit suicide by jumping from there if he failed to send her back to her village immediately.
“He told her that he would take her back before school re-opens. She objected to this and jumped to her death,” the police said, quoting the girl’s father.
