Customer compensated Rs 50,000 for a faulty Xolo smartphone
According to a report by New Indian Express, a Chennai resident, K Ponselvan, purchased a Xolo A 500 smartphone, which developed problem within six months of purchase. However, the smartphone manufacturer Lava International Limited, offered a one year warranty for the handset, and six months for the battery, charger and headset.
On facing problems, he approached Univercell Telecommunications India Private Limited from where he purchased the phone. There he was redirected to Xolo’s authorised service centre, which after 12 days of keeping the phone, returned him the headset claiming that the issues had been fixed. However, within a month the smartphone developed issues again.
Ponselvan then approached a Xolo official who promised to rectify the defect, but soon after he stopped responding to his calls, after he tried 150 times to reach him. In the meantime, the warranty of the Xolo smartphone expired. After Ponselvan’s approach to the CSD head of Xolo business division failed, he appealed to the consumer forum for mental agony suffered and to return the cost of mobile.
The North Chennai District Consumer Forum offered redressal to Ponselvan, and asked the opposite party to return him the cost of the mobile, which was Rs 6,700, pay him a compensation of Rs 50,000, and also bear Rs 3,000 as the cost of the complaint.
