VCK chants coalition mantra before polls
Chennai: With early Assembly elections on the cards following acquittal of the AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa in the assets case, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol. Thirumavalavan has begun mustering support of political parties for his coalition government concept in the state. Pitching for a coalition government, Mr Thirumavalavan called on CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan at his party headquarters at T Nagar here on Wednesday seeking his party’s support.
He also plans to meet leaders of CPI, DMDK, MDMK, TMC and other parties, except BJP and PMK. Stating that he was not against DMK or AIADMK, he said during every election, all political parties forged an alliance with Dravidian majors. Whoever won the elections went on to form a government on their own. “We want to end this seat-sharing adjustment and one-party rule in the state. Political parties representing the marginalised sections were being denied their share of power which will help in their development,” he said.
He said he wanted all these parties to come together and collectively bargain with the Dravidian parties for forming a coalition government in the state. “This alone will help marginalised sections to get their due share of power,” he said. Noting that no political party in the state had the potential to replace AIADMK and DMK in the state, he said he floated his concept as everyone was looking for an alternative.
“Yes. We had discussed the coming Assembly election,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said. “We also explained our party’s stand on electoral alliance to them,” he said, adding that when it came to electoral alliance, his party would take into consideration the stand of political parties on neo-liberal economic policies, untouchability, corruption and communalism.
