Now, real milk chips to lure kids

‘The chips can be stored at room temperature and even micro-waved for better taste’

Lucknow: If your child scowls at the sight of his daily glass of milk, there is a solution that will be available in the coming months. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly, UP, has evolved a new technique through which low fat milk will be converted into chips that will contain all the goodness and nutrition of milk.

These chips will be different from the ones available in the market. “Those available in the market are merely coated with milk while our chips will be pure solidified milk. The chips can be stored at room temperature and even micro-waved for better taste,” said Dr S.K. Mehndiratta, a senior scientist at the IVRI.

“The use of low fat milk is particularly important in this because too much intake of fat milk often leads to health issues in children,” he said. The IVRI, which is still ‘testing’ the milk chips, is undecided about making them salted or sweet. “We may put them out without any taste leaving scope for the consumer to add sugar or salt,” he said.
