Kakatiya idols found in Warangal

A cave with inscriptions was also found during the works near Ganapa Samudram

Hyderabad: Workers digging up water bodies as part of the Mission Kakatiya found ancient statues at various places in Warangal.

Sources said in Ganapuram, the Mission Kakatiya works on the Ganapa Samudram unearthed two statues and some inscriptions in a cave. One of the statues is believed to be of a Kakatiya ruler and another is a Ganesh statue.

A cave with inscriptions was also found during the works near Ganapa Samudram. Moreover, two statues of Dwarapalakas were also found during works at Reddy Cheruvu of Nizampally village in Regonda mandal. Sources from the state archaeological department said the department is planning to send a team to the site soon.

“It has been recommended that a team be sent to the site as more sculptures or inscriptions might come up,” the source said. Initial reports say the inscriptions too might belong to the Kakatiya rulers’ period.
