Ajmal Ameer shifts base to Chennai

The actor is keen to do more Tamil films

Ajmal Ameer, the Mollywood import, made a promising entry with his power packed performance in Mysshkin’s Anjaathey a few years back. The actor’s histrionics were proved when he won critical acclaim for his antagonist role in the subsequent movie Ko by KV Anand. While some of his projects including Vetri Selvan and Ula were still in the making, the former medicine graduate migrated to Telugu for greener pastures, and did Tanu Monne Vellipoyindi with national award winner Vamsi and Prabhajanam with Bhaskar Rao, both of which didn’t much boost his career.

Ajmal has now relocated to Chennai from Kerala and is keen to do more Tamil films.“After Ko, I was flooded with similar roles. I feared that I will be typecast and was choosy about my scripts. Hence, I selected Vetri Selvan and Ula which had substantial characters,” he tells us and adds, “Unfortunately, Vetri…had a delayed release and Ula is yet to release. I went back to where I started and did a few more Malayalam films.”

Ajmal feels that he has received recognition only in K’town and has resolved to concentrate on Tamil cinema. “I have shifted bag and baggage to the city. Talks are on with a few interesting projects including a subject with one of AR Murugadoss’s assistants. I am happy that I am getting different genres now.”
