Water floats at boat pageant draw tourists
Ooty: The boat pageant held at the Ooty lake on Wednesday in connection with the ongoing summer festival, despite the cold and cloudy weather, provided a different kind of feast to the tourists who turned up in good numbers at the venue.
Though the participants in the show were mostly from the various departments of the government who used the opportunity to showcase their achievements with floats on the water, it was a different opportunity for the tourists to witness the well-decorated tableaux and photograph them.
The tableaux of the forest department and tourism department were catchy. However, the tableaux decorated by the Tibetan refugees welfare association made for a different attraction.
The organisers said this kind of programme is organised annually to provide a different kind of entertainment to tourists and to showcase the achievements of the government through the boat pageant, an aquatic attraction during the summer festival time in the Nilgiris.
While Nilgiris collector, Dr P. Sankar, inaugurated the show on Wednesday morning, Dr Srivinvas R. Reddy, field director, Mudumalai tiger reserve, distributed prizes to the winners and participants.
