PD Act may be slapped on eight smugglers

Officials had already forwarded names of 5 red sanders smugglers to collector
Tirupati: The special task force of Chittoor district police has recommended that the district collector clamp the Preventive Detention Act against eight red sanders smugglers to check their activities. The officials had already forwarded the names of the five red sanders smugglers to district collector Siddharth Jain to book cases under the PD Act.
As soon he okays it, officials will book the cases under the PD Act.
Three other names will be added to the list. This exercise will be completed within two or three days. So far officials have booked cases against 35 smugglers under the PD Act.
About 15 persons against whom the PD Act was enforced got bail from the court. At the behest of the government, the task force officials have decided to open suspect sheets against people hired by smugglers.3
According to sources, each red sanders smuggler has woodcutters, drivers for cars, escort vehicles and transport vehicles apart from sundry staff, amounting to about 35 -40 persons. The officials have decided to open suspect sheets against them. The task force officials have already stepped up vigilance on their activities.
Task force additional superintendent M. Ratna said, “We will open suspect sheets on the suspects and send their list to the concerned police station if they are continuously involved in the smuggling activity. So far the officials have opened suspect sheets against 181 persons. We will book cases against red sanders smugglers under the PD Act.”
