National Film Festival brings movie buffs together
KOZHIKODE: The National Film Festival (NFF) that opened at Tagore Hall on Tuesday attracted a large number of film buffs from across the district.
A total of 20 Indian and foreign films will be screened during the five-day festival organised by the Kerala State Chalac-hitra Academy in association with the Kozhikode corporation, Bankmen’s Film Society and Ashwini Film Society.
NFF general convener K.J. Thomas said a large number of people were coming to watch the movies and the response was very good so far.
“These films have been screened at many prestigious international and national film festivals,” he told DC. “In the coming days, we expect a larger crowd at the festival.”
On the inaugural day, Veena Bakshi’s Coffin Maker received a large audience. A number of seminars are also being conducted at the venue.
On Wednesday, the topic of discussion was Malayalam subtitles in the films. The 1948 Vittorio De Sica classic Bicycle Thieves was shown with Malayalam subtitles.
A photo exhibition on Malayalam film history with the special focus on life and movies of evergreen hero Prem Nazir is also part of the festival.
Chotoder Chobi (Bengali), Gour Hari Dastaan (Hindi), Jalamsham (Malayalam) and Nirbashito (Bengali) are lined up for Thursday. There are five shows —10.30 am, 2 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm.
