My China visit will set new milestone, says PM Modi

Border row can’t be resolved overnight: Beijing

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Wednesday he has “no doubt” his forthcoming visit to China will deepen bilateral ties and create a “milestone for relations between developing countries in Asia and around the world”. He added the 21st century will be the “century of Asia”.

“I believe my trip to China will not only deepen China-India friendship, but also set a new milestone for relations between developing countries in Asia (and) around the world. There is no doubt about it,” Mr Modi was quoted telling China’s state-run CCTV ahead of his visit starting Thursday.

“The 21st century is the century of Asia, a century where we can fight for freedom. China and India should join hands and cooperate closely to promote world peace and stability, which is what the times demand of us,” he said.

China on Wednesday played down expectations of any early breakthrough in resolving the vexed boundary dispute, saying while it will come up in Mr Modi’s talks with President Xi, it “cannot be resolved overnight”.
