10 scientific predictions that hint towards the end of the Earth

Seismologists are predicting a massive earthquake in the coming months

After the movies 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow, every earthquake and flood felt like the end of the earth, however, one or the other theory always lifted our spirits with proof that we still have hope for survival.

And then, some back-to-back catastrophic disasters took place, a massive earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit Nepal, which caused mass destruction. Soon after we witnessed a prodigious volcanic eruption in Chile. And now Nepal again felt tremors in Kathmandu and the regions around. This cannot be good!

Seismologists have been working day and night on this, and some have reported a bigger earthquake in the coming months.

ScoopWhoop, has put together 10 scientific predictions that the earth does not have long to live. Below are the reasons why we need to be prepared:

  1. Researchers are expecting an earthquake 32 times more vigorous than the Nepal quake.
  2. NASA predicted that increasing magnetic energy of the sun can cause a cannonade of solar flares that could destroy all computers, with the satellites being affected the most.
  3. Predicted to take place on September 15, 2015, Earth will witness a deadly solar eclipse.
  4. With the Nepal quake, it wasn’t just the human life that was affected, but the magnificent Mount Everest felt the quake too. After the tremors, the highest mountain range was recorded to have shrunken by 2.8 cm.
  5. Since the earthquake hit Nepal, Seismologists have also been predicting a giant quake in Bihar. However, they are not able to tell when could it hit the region.
  6. No this is where it gets uncanny! Remember how in 2012, the Earth’s magnetic field flips and the South Pole moves to Wisconsin? So that’s what’s going to happen! Researchers believe that the Earth’s magnetic field is weakening 10 times faster than normal.
  7. A gigantic asteroid hurtling through space is feared to be one of the biggest ever to threaten a collision with Earth. Worried astronomers warned 1999 FN53, which is an eighth of the size of Mount Everest, would skim the Earth. According to the researchers, a collision would be nothing short of catastrophic triggering mass destruction, earthquakes and global extinction.
  8. Nostradamus, a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous worldwide, predicted a massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. He predicted the timeline of the eruption to around late 2015 or early 2016.
  9. IIT Hyderabad researchers have also suggested an expected earthquake in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh.
  10. Western USA is also under threat with a predicted super volcanic eruption at Mount St Helens, which could leave to a massive earthquake in the region

Even if one of this comes true, it’s certainly not good news! However, this article is not intended to create a panic amongst our reader. We only intend to communicate to what could be happening, because ignorance is not always bliss, sometimes it is just better to know, so you could be prepared better.

Since researchers have predicted major eathquakes in the near future, here is how you can prepare yourself in case of a quake (as posted on an educational site) -

What to do before an earthquake

  • Make sure you have a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, a battery-powered radio, a flashlight, and extra batteries at home.
  • Learn first aid.
  • Learn how to turn off the gas, water, and electricity.
  • Make up a plan of where to meet your family after an earthquake.
  • Don't leave heavy objects on shelves (they'll fall during a quake).
  • Anchor heavy furniture, cupboards, and appliances to the walls or floor.
  • Learn the earthquake plan at your school or workplace.

What to do during an earthquake

  • Stay calm! If you're indoors, stay inside. If you're outside, stay outside.
  • If you're indoors, stand against a wall near the center of the building, stand in a doorway, or crawl under heavy furniture (a desk or table). Stay away from windows and outside doors.
  • If you're outdoors, stay in the open away from power lines or anything that might fall. Stay away from buildings (stuff might fall off the building or the building could fall on you).
  • Don't use matches, candles, or any flame. Broken gas lines and fire don't mix.
  • If you're in a car, stop the car and stay inside the car until the earthquake stops.
  • Don't use elevators (they'll probably get stuck anyway).

What to do after an earthquake

  • Check yourself and others for injuries. Provide first aid for anyone who needs it.
  • Check water, gas, and electric lines for damage. If any are damaged, shut off the valves. Check for the smell of gas. If you smell it, open all the windows and doors, leave immediately, and report it to the authorities (use someone else's phone).
  • Turn on the radio. Don't use the phone unless it's an emergency.
  • Stay out of damaged buildings.
  • Be careful around broken glass and debris. Wear boots or sturdy shoes to keep from cutting your feet.
  • Be careful of chimneys (they may fall on you).
  • Stay away from beaches. Tsunamis and seiches sometimes hit after the ground has stopped shaking.
  • Stay away from damaged areas.
  • If you're at school or work, follow the emergency plan or the instructions of the person in charge.
  • Expect aftershocks.

Stay safe! Help your fellow earthlings!
