Karnataka SSLC results: OBC students beat general category counterparts

OBC students fared better than general category and SC and ST students

Bengaluru: The SSLC examination results announced on Tuesday have a few surprises, with students from other backward communities faring better than general category and SC and ST students.

Like the previous years this time too, the pass percentage of girl students is higher than that of the boys. Unaided school students have done well as compared to students from government aided and government schools. Rural students have done better than their counterparts in urban areas.

The pass percentage of general merit students is 85.76, while it is 91.06 among 3A category students. 3B category students with 89.11 per cent and 2A category students with 86.9 per cent too have fared well.

Highest pass percentage

Though the state has registered the highest pass percentage ever, city students continue return bad results. The pass percentage of Bengaluru South academic district, which covers areas including Basavanagudi and Koramangala, has come down from 78.70 in 2014 to 78.50 this year.

Bengaluru North academic district, which comprises Malleswaram, Sadashivanagar, Basaveshwarnagar and other areas and that secured lowly 22nd slot last year, has further slipped to 23rd ranking this year with a pass percentage of 84.90.

But Bengaluru Rural students have done remarkably well by securing the 5th place, moving up 20 places from last year. The pass percentage of the academic district has risen from 84.45 per cent in 2014 to 91.10% this year. Releasing the SSLC results, DPI Commissioner Mohammed Mohsin said that 8.37 lakh students appeared for the exams, and 6.85 lakh students cleared them.

Supplementary exams

Supplementary exams will be held between June 15 and 22, he said. The students can apply for the retotalling, photo copies and revaluation of their answer scripts by May 22. “The applications are available at Bangalore One centre in the city,” Mr. Mohammed Mohsin said.
