Ram Jethmalani slams PM Modi on stash
Jethmalani said neither Mr Shah nor Mr Modi had retracted this statement
New Delhi: Eminent advocate Ram Jethmalani on Tuesday said people of this country who voted for Narendra Modi are frustrated as nothing has been done by this government in the last one year to bring back black money stashed abroad.
Making this submission before a three-judge bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justices Madan Lokur and A.K. Sikri hearing the black money case, Mr Jethmalani lamented that not a single dollar has been brought back by this government which is shielding those who had stashed money in foreign banks. Assisted by counsel Balaji Srinivasan, he recalled a TV interview of BJP president Amit Shah stating that what Mr Modi said during the election campaign was just a “political jumla”, which would mean that it was an empty promise.
He said neither Mr Shah nor Mr Modi had retracted this statement. Mr Jethmalani said, “I must share my frustration that the Modi government had committed a fraud on the whole nation. Nothing has been done so far by this government to fulfil its promise. This government will not do anything because it is controlled by those who had stashed money abroad. It is absolutely clear that the present government is not taking effective steps to bring back black money illegally stashed abroad.
The PM, Mr Shah and finance minister Arun Jaitley must answer as to why they have allowed things to happen in this fashion... During my personal visit to Germany, the authorities told me the government has not sought any information,” he alleged.
