High security number plates delayed

Plates being stacked up at RTA offices without segregation

Hyderabad: Various RTA offices in the city are seeing a delay of three to four days from the projected day of affixing the High Security Number Plates as finding the plates has become an issue. In most cases, the number plates are being stored without any segregation and just stacked up as they come in.

Earlier this month, an incident of missing number plates was reported in Uppal RTO and a police complaint was also lodged in this regard.

A report is still awaited. Meanwhile, misplacing of plates has increased leading to delay in fixing of these plates. Since Jan. this year, all new vehicles are mandated to get the new high security number plates affixed. Prior to Jan. end, any vehicle registration could be done by paying the RTO fee alone.

Now the process has been changed to the person requiring to take the authorization slip issued along with the payment slip by the RTO and make the payment for the HSRP plates. Only after the payment receipt is shown, are the final formalities of digital signature completed by the RTA authorities.

The HSRP number plates were being maintained and managed by LinkAuto Tech Private Ltd, the agency that has been engaged to manufacture and affix the plates.

“While earlier there was a delay of one day, now the delay in many cases is increasing up to four days because of the mixing up of the high security plates.

In all RTAs, a separate counter attached to a store room is maintained. The order is taken at the time of filling the registration form itself and the number plates are manufactured and sent to each RTA office. The maintenance is done by the agency and there are an increasing number of incidents of mixing up of the plates,” said a senior official of the RTA.
