A video purportedly showing an Indian origin man being beaten up in Qatar, for insulting Islam in a social media post, has gone viral in Whatsapp. The BBC reported that the attackers and the victim, were both from Kerala and the row happened in Safari Mall in Doha.
The video shows a group of men manhandling a man while a few of them try to bring order to the situation, while many others watch silently. The Qatari police had to intervene, but it is unknown whether the man has been taken in custody or not.
An NRI website, nricafe.com, reporting on the incident, said that the Interior Ministry in Qatar had called a meeting with the organisations that represent the Indian diaspora, and impressed upon them the need to abide by the local laws.
