CM Chandrababu Naidu to inspect Veligonda project works on May 14

The CM assured that he would complete the first phase of the project works within a year
Ongole: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inspect the Veligonda project works at Dornala in Prakasam district on May 14. He will conduct a meeting with the project engineers to speed up the project works. The CM assured that he would complete the first phase of the project works within a year and issued orders to this effect. If first phase is completed, it will irrigate 1.19 lakh acre in Prakasam district and solve drinking water problem in thirty mandals.
The government has allotted Rs 150 crore in the state budget. The CM said that he had taken up ‘Jala Deeksha’ to complete the irrigation projects. As part of this programme he is visiting the Veligonda project. Due to non-payment of bills and break down of tunnel cutting machine, the work has come to a grinding halt for some time.
After YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the project site, irrigation minister Devineni Uma inspected the site and instructed the officials to speed up the project works. The officials mounted pressure on the contractor and revived works. The project works revived five days ago.
The engineering officials arranged a mini-train to go into the tunnel to inspect the engineering works. The government permitted three engineering officials to board the train along with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Chief engineer irrigation, projects, P. Veera Raju, said “The CM will inspect the tunnels and project work. If first phase is completed, it will irrigate 1.19 lakh acre of land in Prakasam district. We have revived the project works.”
District collector Sujatha Sharma, superintendent of police Ch. Srikant already visited the project site and helipad set up at the project site. MP Y.V. Subba Reddy said “The government is neglecting the Veligonda Project works because it was taken up by the former chief minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy under the “Jala Yagnam,” that is why, the works are going on at a snail’s pace.
