75 per cent jump in banks’ hiring activity
Chennai: According to the Naukri Job Speak index for Chennai, hiring activity in the city in April 2015 was at 1,500, compared to 1,287 for the same period last year, indicating a 17 per cent increase. Among the key sectors, banking sector saw an increase of 75 per cent in hiring activity in the city and sectors like pharma saw 3 per cent increase in hiring.
However, sectors like construction and engineering and insurance saw a dip of 5 per cent and 23 per cent while BPO/ITeS showed a 2 per cent dip in hiring activity. Telecom registered a 2 per cent growth over the same period.
Hiring of project management, and production and maintenance professionals saw a dip of 12 per cent and 6 per cent respectively. A reverse trend was seen for HR and finance professionals where the numbers went up by 9 per cent and 8 per cent respectively. Hiring activity in the auto sector has maintained stability during this period.
