It’s wonderful to have Jo back on screen: Suriya
Suriya talks to DC about his upcoming film, rapport with his director and his wife, Jyothika’s comeback
There is a lot of buzz surrounding Suriya’s Masss, which is directed by Venkat Prabhu. Suriya talks to DC about his upcoming film, rapport with his director and his wife, Jyothika’s comeback.
ON VENKAT PRABHU
“Venkat was my classmate. Now, he’s an all-rounder. He is a fantastic actor, singer and director,” says Suriya. To this Venkat added, “Suriya, Yuvan Shankar Raja and I studied in the same school. He used to be very reserved in school. Before commencing the shoot for Masss, I was under the impression that he would be the same. But he was not! He interacted with everyone in the unit.”
ON SHOOTING FOR THE FILM
Most filmmakers who worked with Suriya in the past have said that the actor goes back to his vanity van as soon as his shot is done. On the contrary for this film, he refused to go back to his van and would pull a chair and sit with the team after shots.
Suriya revealed the secret behind his refusal to use a vanity van. “I had a reason to avoid getting inside my caravan during breaks. I was anxious about the informal way, ‘team Venkat Prabhu’ was working. They were talking all the time. I doubted if they would complete the film on time. I hung around because I wanted to check if work was progressing as planned (smiles).”
ON JYOTHIKA’S COMEBACK
“It is wonderful to have Jo back again on the screen after a gap of eight-nine years. She is glowing and it’s a special experience to watch her act,” says the actor. He adds that he has started his production house, 2D Entertainment, to make films for kids and families. Jyothika’s comeback film is the first one made under this banner.
