Keir Millar succumbed to injuries he sustained during a race

Edinburgh: In a sad turn of events, an 11-year-old world champion mini stock car driver Keir Millar lost his life on Monday in Edinburgh.

Millar, who was severely injured following a crash during a race at Lochgelly Raceway in Fife on Saturday, succumbed to death at a hospital in Edinburgh, reported BBC.

Marked for a bright future in racing, Keir had won the Ninja Kart Championship in Ipswich in 2014 when he was ten.

Police Scotland confirmed Keir’s death on Monday evening. They issued a statement which said, “Police Scotland can confirm that the 11-year-old injured at a youth stock car event in Lochgelly, Fife, on Saturday, May 9, has died.”

“Keir Millar passed away peacefully today (Monday, May 11) at around 4pm at the Sick Kids Hospital, Edinburgh.”

Keir's family has issued the following statement:

"The family of Keir Millar are extremely distraught at the passing of their son. He was a much loved son and brother and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

"The family is requesting privacy at this most difficult time."
