Indian Institute of Planning and Management to continue with admissions

Institute unfazed by cases against dean

Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) is unfazed by the police case filed against the institute’s dean and founder, Mr Arindam Chaudhuri, by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for cheating students.

When contacted, an IIPM official from New Delhi said that they had tied up with an AICTE-approved institute in the city as part of IIPM 2.0 and would continue admissions, adding that classes would start by July 2.

When asked about the police case, he said that it was not an issue and they were confident that students would still apply as they were a 40-year-old institution. However, he refused to speak further when asked about the students who took admission in IIPM-Hyderabad last academic year.

An IIPM-Hyderabad official too refused to comment on the issue. IIPM has had many detractors in the online community and has been ridiculed over the years.

Blogs like iipm-fraud and iipmexposed exist along with many hate-riddled posts and queries about IIPM. There’s even a satirical blog called Indian Institute of Ponytail Management.

Twitter, meanwhile, was abuzz on Monday with IIPM being the butt of jokes. Many people tweeted regarding the conditions mentioned in the advertisement for IIPM 2.0 admissions for the year 2015.

While the advertisement claims admissions for under graduation and post graduation courses, the conditions mention that IIPM and IIPM 2.0 run certification programmes and do not give degree or diploma and neither do they come under UGC or AICTE.

One particular reviewer who claims to be an IIPM alumnus, alleged that it charged a lot of money, but provided very poor placements.

There’s also a different side of the story wherein the Facebook page “IIPM alumni & placements” has garnered more than 1.5 lakh likes. When contacted, an IIPM alumnus said, “I don’t think AICTE affiliation matters as long as the institution provides good education. I had a great time at the institute and there has been a lot of positive change in me because of the education it provided.”
