Ruckus in Rajya Sabha: Nitin Gadkari claims innocence
New Delhi: With the Congress baying for his blood, Union minister Nitin Gadkari broke his silence Monday on the CAG report on irregularities in loans given to his family-linked Purti Group, saying the government auditor had nowhere named him a wrongdoer, with no charge of corruption or misappropriation. The Rajya Sabha failed to transact any major business as Congress members created a ruckus by demanding Mr Gadkari’s resignation.
The minister said the auditor’s report was “deliberately misinterpreted for political reasons”, but this failed to pacify Congress MPs, that led to repeated adjournments. The minister also said he might move a privilege motion against Congress leader Anand Sharma for levelling some allegations against him.
Reading out a statement in the Upper House, Mr Gadkari said “The CAG has nowhere named me as a wrong-doer nor there is any adverse comment against me. There is neither any indictment nor any charge of corruption or misappropriation against me of the PSKL .”
Noting that he was chairman of PSKL from 2000 to 2011, he said he was neither an MP nor held any post when the loan was extended.
