Tamil Nadu: O Panneerselvam glad to be back as Finance minister
Chennai: AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa’s trusted lieutenant O. Panneerselvam will be more than glad to revert to his finance portfolio and see his leader at the helm of affairs.
He will be making history of sorts when he demits office for the second time to make way for Ms Jayalalithaa to become Chief Minister following the Karnataka high court judgment on Monday. Even in party circles, he is known to be suave, refined and soft-spoken and interestingly as his premonition would have it, Ms Jayalalithaa has come out clean from the graft case foisted on her to occupy the CM’s chair.
“Amma will return as Chief Minister again,” he told the Legislative Assembly recently. During his brief tenure, Mr Panneerselvam never occupied the Chief Minister’s office nor the chair meant for the Chief Minister in the Assembly. He maintained a low profile and hardly reacted to Opposition charges and chose to highlight Tamil Nadu issues by addressing letters to the Prime Minister.
