Mercury dips in several places in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

The temperatures in both states are either normal or appreciably below normal

Hyderabad: The mercury dipped across several places in Telangana and AP due to an upper air trough running across Telangana and Rayalaseema.

While temperatures in seven districts of Telangana hovered above 40ºCelsius on Sunday, the temperatures recorded on Monday witnessed a drop of 1º-2º Celsius at several places.

The temperature recorded across all stations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was below 40ºCelsius except Nizamabad (42.5ºC), Kurnool (40.6ºC) and Anantapur (41.0ºC).

“The trough has led to cloud formation and thundershowers at isolated places in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Though there was no rain, the cool breeze has kept the temperatures in control and temperatures have remained appreciatively below normal at a few places in the state,” said K. Sitaram, director (forecasts), IMD Hyderabad Centre.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

Under its influence, a low pressure area would develop over southwest Bay of Bengal around May 13, according to IMD inference.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalseema according to the Met forecast.

“The temperatures in both states are either normal or appreciably below normal. The present condition will persist for two more days,” Mr Sitaram said.
