HD Kumaraswamy offers to quit, speaker manages to stop him
BENGALURU: Miffed with the slow progress by a legislature committee constituted to probe purchase of power from 2004, JD(S) floor leader H D Kumaraswamy on Monday offered to quit this committee but was advised by Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa not to resign.
Speaking to the media after meeting Mr Kagodu Thimmappa, Mr Kumaraswamy said no documents have been placed before the committee so far.
“I offered to quit the Committee, but the Speaker advised me to stay put and write a letter to him,” he said adding “this is the first time a minister has been appointed chairman of the committee set up to probe his own department. What documents will the officials produce before the committee?”
Answering a question, Mr Kumaraswamy said energy minister D K Shivakumar was “returning favours” received from former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and former energy minister Shobha Karandlaje. “During the meeting, he admitted there was misappropriation to the tune of Rs 30,000 crores, but did not produce any document,” he added.
