Dawood Ibrahim is indeed in Pakistan, insists India
New Delhi/Lucknow: Union home minister Rajnath Singh categorically declared in the Lok Sabha on Monday that Mumbai blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim was in Pakistan, nearly a week after the government told Parliament in reply to a question it did not know Dawood’s whereabouts.
Mr Singh told the House that the government would do everything possible to bring the underworld don to justice. “Whether we have to pursue Pakistan or pressure it, we will not rest till Dawood Ibrahim is brought back. India has maintained pressure on Pakistan at all levels. But Pakistan has failed to track him down despite being provided with overwhelming evidence about his presence there, based on credible information,” Mr Singh said.
The government’s reply to a parliamentary question last week had snowballed into a huge controversy. “India has credible information about his presence in Pakistan. Despite overwhelming documentary and other evidence handed over to Pakistan, it has failed to locate Dawood Ibrahim and initiate legal process. India has provided Pakistan the details of his Pakistani passports and reported addresses there from time to time, asking it to locate and hand him over to it,” Mr Singh said in his statement.
The subject has not been located so far. Extradition process with regard to Dawood would be initiated once he is located.
