George, a resident of Viveknagar and son of slain rowdy Palani, has over 18 cases pending against him. Recently, George and his gang members assaulted two police constables, who were on rounds in mufti, in Viveknagar police limits. The police arrested five of them, while George escaped. The police had formed a special team to nab the accused.
On Monday, the team got a tip-off that George and his three aides were hiding in a white Maruti van waiting for someone on Palace Road. Immediately, a team of 11 policemen, including Mr Killedar and Mr Raghavendra, swung into action.

“The special team went to arrest George around 4 pm. They spotted the white Maruti Van, and Hazresh and Raghavendra went near the vehicle to check, when George and his associate got out of the van and attacked the policemen with daggers and machetes. They stabbed Raghavendra in the stomach and attacked Hazresh, who received a deep cut in his hand. When the assailants continued the attack, Ashoknagar Inspector Rangappa shot two rounds and the SI Ravi shot one round in self-defence. George sustained a bullet injury in his ankle, while Deva was shot below his knee,” Mr Sandeep Patil, DCP (Central), said.
Two other aides of George tried to escape, but the police managed to catch Sathish. In the meantime, the other policemen reached the spot and shifted the two injured cops and two rowdies to Victoria Hospital. Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Alok Kumar and Mr Patil visited the spot. George has dacoity, robbery and extortion cases registered against him. Efforts are on to nab the fourth accused.
