5 things that will get you hooked on while watching ‘Bombay Velvet’

Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious dream will finally see the light of day on May 15

Anurag Kashyap’s ambitious dream will see the light of day on May 15, when it hits the theatres worldwide. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar, K K Menon and Satyadeep Mishra, the period film will unearth the life of the 60’s in Mumbai. Based on Gyan Prakash’s Mumbai Fables, Anurag and his team have worked tirelessly to recreate the city of Bombay in Sri Lanka. The making of some portions of fabulous VFX done by Prana Studios is already out just giving you a teaser of what really lies in store when you witness it in theatres. The trail shows of the film have begun and from the one’s who have seen this film, here are the 5 things that will make go and watch the film again.

Bombay Velvet club

The way the club has been designed in the film is nothing short of spectacular. The club is plush, retro and dripping with sensuality. It has all the glitter and glamour but no skin show that would make you uncomfortable while watching the film with your kids. The jazz music that plays in the club is again the work of genius Amit Trivedi who by far has created the best music of his career.

Ranbir Kapoor

There is no denying that Ranbir Kapoor is a great performer. Time and again he has proved his calibre be it in massy movies like ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ or in a challenging role for a film like ‘Barfi’. Ranbir as this street fighter in Bombay is nothing like you have seen before. His body language, the crass behaviour, the way he tumbles while entering the club, everything is top notch. Though it is hard to imagine an urban looking guy playing Johnny Balraj, Ranbir Kapoor will break away all preconceived notions about him as a performer. He is most likely to be leading in winning all the awards this year.

Raveena Tandon

Her role is short but every time she comes on screen she just lights it up with her sensuality. She leaves you asking for more and all you would say while watching her is that she is such a stunner.

Surprise packages

Satyadeep Mishra, K K Menon have nailed it with their intense looks and natural performance. They are really a surprise package and their performance makes this curious plot all the more worth watching. The movie also brings to light the fight between 2 media giants in the 60’s and how the mill crisis was played in the tabloids. It is so well researched; you will never need to open any history again.

Karan Johar

Karan Johar has admitted that there is a ‘Khambata’ in each one of us. He literally lives the character as a media mogul and the darkness to his performance is so well projected by Anurag. The way he manipulates, uses people around him is so unforced and natural. Never in the film he raises his voice and people will have a lot to talk about this character after they have seen the film.
