Microsoft may not launch new operating system after Windows 10

Company to only provide updates to the existing system

Hyderabad: The world’s leading operating system manufacturer Microsoft may not roll out a new operating system after the recently launched Windows 10 and will only provide updates to the existing system, according to the grapevine. Microsoft India chairman Bhaskar Pramanik said, “We will continue to provide updates to the current operating system. How-ever, I won’t comment on non-introduction of newer OS as it is not about the introduction of a new system. All the existing Windows are the updated versions of their previous OS.”

On the change of nomenclature for the updates, he said that it would be decided later. The IT giant also refuted claims of shutting down its browser Internet Explorer 9 and search engine Bing, given their unsatisfactory performances.“Yes, the performance of our search engine has not been good. However, there are no plans of shutting down as every product is observed for a period of seven years and then a dec-ision is taken with respect to its closure of service.”

Microsoft had earlier stopped providing technical support for Windows XP and next in line could be Windows 7. However, “before stopping the service, the product would undergo the reveiwing period of seven years,” he explained. According to Forbes, Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon, a self proclaimed ‘developer evangelist’, stated, “Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10.”

“Windows will be delivered as a service bringing new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner, with continuous value for our consumer and business customers,” explained Microsoft in its full statement to the Verge. “We aren’t speaking to future branding at this time, but customers can be confident that Windows 10 will remain up-to-date and power a variety of devices from PCs to phones to Surface Hub to HoloLens and Xbox. We look forward to a long future of Windows innovations,” the statement added.
