Land issues delay Ministry of Defence projects

The DRDO has proposed to establish a Missile Launching facility in Nagayalanka
Hyderabad: Defence projects like Naval Alternate Operating Base in Vizag, Missile Launching Centre in Nagayalanka in Krishna district and three other projects worth thousands of crore are caught in land hurdles in Andhra Pradesh.
Despite the defence ministry informing the state that it is ready to take up the projects if the land issues are sorted out, several problems plague the allotment.
The DRDO has proposed to establish a Missile Launching facility in Nagayalanka in Krishna district at a cost of Rs 600 crore. In the proposed land for DRDO project out of 157 hectares, 24.27 hectares fall under wildlife sanctuary and awaits the approval of a green bench to be constituted by the SC.
DRDO has proposed another project to establish NAOB at Rambilli and Kalavaripalli reserve forest areas in Vizag by diverting 676 hectares of forest land. After a protest by the displaced villagers, officials assured them a better relief package. Likewise, a strategic project for creation of a technical facility at Chintaluru and Vurulova Hill ranges in Vizag is embroiled in a dispute over the land’s price between Centre and AP.
