Illegal structures: The rich go scotfree

‘BDA fudged a survey number to help some plot owners’

Bengaluru: Former corporator C. Lakshiminarayana has alleged that the state government was partial towards certain sections of the society and turned a blind eye towards unauthorised constructions in Dollars Colony in South Bengaluru.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, Lakshminarayana said the BDA had fudged the survey number of a land in order to help the plot owners, some of whom were prominent people.

“Illegal constructions, including residences of popular personalities like CM Siddaramaiah, Kagodu Thimmappa, environmentalist Suresh Hebliker, actors Shivarajkumar, Devaraj, among many others, have cropped on the lake area, which belongs to Bilekahalli. However, the BDA has fudged the documents and changed the survey no 167 to survey number 19 in Sarakki 4th Phase. A total number of 409 plots have been sold illegally,” he said.

The former corporator added that though a state government notification was issued in 1995 to develop a layout in JP Nagar 7th Phase, it was withdrawn in 2004 as the BDA did not have enough land for the proposed project. Also, many unauthorized constructions had come up before the BDA could fully utilize the identified 508 acres, where the layout should have come up.

“However, the BDA managed to get possession of four acres and it fudged the documents to favour the prominent people who had already constructed homes on the lake area.

“How can the land close to Bannerghatta Road have the survey number of the land situated near Kanakapura Road? It is a complete sham,” he alleged.

Lakshimarayana observed that since the homes of common people were being indiscriminately demolished, the so-called high-profile citizens too should face the same fate. “The entire department is involved. Will the government demolish the houses in Dollars Colony? It should play fair,” he said.
