Centre plans industry balm for Naxal hotbed

Setting up of “industrial clusters” will provided a foolproof and strong security cover

New Delhi: Keeping in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda, the PMO is said to be working on an ambitious policy to give a major boost to industrialisation in Naxal-infested states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha etc.

Sources said that Mr Modi is keen that development and industrial growth in these states should be given a major push as this will have a direct impact on the Naxal problem as even people in remote areas will be directly benefited with the all-round development of the state.

The PM, sources said, has already directed his office to work out a mechanism to assess as to how infrastructure development and industrial growth in Naxal-infested states can be put on the fast track. The proposals being considered by the PMO include setting up of “industrial clusters” in such states, which will be provided a foolproof and strong security cover.

Incentives in the form of tax sops to corporates willing to set up industrial units in Naxal-affected states is also under consideration. A greater push to facilities like health, education, irrigation is also being planned.
